Metro Suspends Cop Who Shot Unarmed Man
Las Vegas CBS KXNT – A Las Vegas Metropolitan police officer who shot and wounded an unarmed man while responding to a domestic violence call last November will not be terminated.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie announced Monday that he will instead suspend Officer Jacquar Roston for 40 hours without pay, and require him to undergo training with a focus on his ability to perceive danger. Gillespie said Roston failed to call back-up, and didn’t properly assess the situation that night.
Roston fired the shot, when he believed a man who reached to the floor of his car was picking up a gun. The man, who was wounded in the leg, was actually reaching for his hat.
