ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A federal official says a wildfire burned power lines and is threatening homes in the remote northeastern Nevada community of Tuscarora.

Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Lesli Ellis-Wouters in Elko said Wednesday that almost 100 firefighters and several air tankers are battling the 1-square-mile Wieland fire in the Rhoads Ranch area.

One firefighter was hospitalized Tuesday after being overcome by heat.

The fire covers about 650 acres of grass and sage brush in steep and inaccessible terrain. It’s 10 percent contained.

Ellis-Wouters says she doesn’t immediately know how many structures are threatened.

The cause is being investigated.

Tuscarora is about 40 miles northwest of Elko.
