(Las Vegas, NV) — Firefighters gained ground in some areas, but lost it in others on Monday as they battled a vast wildfire west of Las Vegas.
As of Tuesday morning, the Carpenter 1 wildfire has burned more than 19,000 acres in the Spring Mountains. Officials estimate that containment remains at 15 percent. They hope to have it under control by July 19th.
More than 800 firefighters are battling the blaze which started one week ago on the eastern side of the mountain range.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has granted Governor Brian Sanodval’s request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant to help cover costs.
