Las Vegas CBS KXNT – It’s 20 acres, 20,000 panels, and could provide up to 20 percent of the power for the Mandalay Bay Resort when it’s up and running.

A planned 6.2 megawatt solar plant on the roof will distinguish the Mandalay’s convention center, making it the second-largest in the nation with such capabilities.

Senator Harry Reid was there for the announcement on Tuesday to throw some compliments at the Mandalay and parent company MGM Resorts International, for leadership in the green energy arena. Reid’s presence notwithstanding, MGM executives said there is no federal subsidy for the project “at this time.”

The project will be installed by NRG solar, a subsidiary of Fortune 500 energy company NRG.
