LAS VEGAS (AP) — A newly finished internal probe into alleged patient dumping sheds light onto cases of Las Vegas psychiatric patients bused out of state.
The report singled out 10 cases of patients improperly discharged from Rawson-Neal psychiatric hospital, and found that four of those patients were sent to their home states.
The other six were taken to states they weren’t from, mainly California. But Nevada Health and Human Services chief Mike Willden says patients were sent to destinations they requested.
The ACLU of Nevada has filed a lawsuit on behalf of ex-patient James Brown, who was discharged to a Greyhound bus and ended up disoriented in Sacramento in February.
ACLU lawyer Allen Lichtenstein argues Brown received improper care and was discharged while he couldn’t care for himself.
