(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–The parents of the five kids who ran away from Child Haven this week pleaded guilty to child neglect charges and served jail time two years ago.

Court records also show that Jerry Nicholas and Theresa Bimbo had previous histories of child neglect and were on probation when police knocked on their door in 2011.

Nicholas also has a current bench warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court weeks ago on a domestic violence charge.

The children–one of them just 7 years old—fled Child Haven earlier this week, prompting a police call for the public’s help in locating them. After the kids flagged a ride from a woman who believed she was taking the siblings to a relative’s home, a citizen spotted the kids at a local fast food restaurant and alerted authorities. They were picked up a short time later, about 24 hours after they fled the child shelter.

Police say the family home was filthy with little food when they investigated neighbor complaints in 2011 that the children were wandering the neighborhood unattended. An officer noted Nicholas appeared to be under the influence when he answered the door, and the mother was unable to name the school the children attended. The parents have reportedly said they both have diminished intellectual capacities, but have been cleared to parent their children.
