(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Natasha Greene graduates from Las Vegas High School tonight, and you can bet she will be there.
She has not missed a single day of school in her life.
Her thirteen years of perfect attendance is not unprecedented, but she has been told she is the first student to graduate from LVHS–the city’s oldest school–without missing a day.
Has there ever been a close call? “There was one day this year that I had a really really bad headache, but, it was just a few hours of school compared to my whole entire life working up to this”, she said with a laugh.
After several years of perfect attendance as an elementary school student, it became a mission.
“I made it through all of that elementary school, and I said okay, okay, we made it through elementary school, I can do this. And then I made it through middle school, and by then, I said, this is real now. We are going to make it all the way to the end, and there was no way I was going to miss a single day.”
Have there been days when she woke up and just didnt feel like going to school? “Yes, oh yes, there have been those days, but then I realized how far I’ve come. I couldn’t let one morning ruin that entire run for me. I couldn’t do it.”
While she is proud of her feat, Natasha gives credit to her parents. “They’ve always stressed that to learn, you need to be there. I took that, and I am so grateful that they’ve always been there to support me.
Natasha is heading to Barnard College at Columbia University in New York City this Fall. She has an interest in medicine and global affairs, but says college is where she will truly find out where her passion lies. Whatever that turns out to be, Natasha is unlikely to miss a single day of it.
