ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico man has been arrested after Albuquerque police say he kidnapped two people, stuffed them in his car’s trunk and threw one of them off a bridge into the Rio Grande.

Authorities say 26-year-old Martin Montano was taken into custody Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing him toss a woman from a bridge in Albuquerque in broad daylight. Another beaten man was found on the side of the road near the bridge.

Police say the badly beaten victims are between the ages of 50 to 70 and are listed in stable condition at an Albuquerque hospital. Their names have not been released.

Authorities are unsure of the motive behind the beating but believe Montano knew the victims.

It’s unclear if Montano has an attorney.
