LAS VEGAS (AP) — Preliminary data from the FBI show the number of violent crimes reported to police in Las Vegas and Reno rose from 2011 to 2012.
Statistics released Monday show Las Vegas police handled nearly 11,600 violent crimes in 2012, including 76 murders and 596 forcible rapes. The total number of reported crimes went up from about 10,800 the year before.
The much-smaller Reno saw nearly 1,200 violent crimes in 2012, including seven murders and 33 forcible rapes. That’s up from about 1,100 violent crimes reported in 2011.
The raw number of violent crimes fell in Henderson, from 571 in 2011 to 445 in 2012.
Violent crimes, which also include robbery and aggravated assault, rose 1.2 percent nationally in one year. Property crimes such as burglary and theft dropped 0.8 percent nationwide.
