SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Police in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise are investigating the death of a 17-year-old high school football player who was fatally injured when he fell from the bed of a moving pickup truck during a game with fellow youths.
Police say Andrew Arellanes died early Sunday after being injured Saturday night. He fell and hit the ground head first when the truck swerved.
The accident occurred while he and other students played a game in which some players pretend to be police chase while others pretend to be fugitives.
Arellanes was a quarterback for Valley Vista High School.
Police say the truck apparently was going the speed limit when Arellanes fell and that there are no reports of impairment.
