MAGNA, Utah (AP) — Police have arrested three teenagers who told Utah fire officials they lit hymnals on fire in a Mormon chapel, causing the building to set ablaze.
Police arrested the teenagers Monday after the fire at the chapel building in Magna. No injuries were reported.
Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clint Meacham says the building ignited near 7 a.m. and fire crews put it out by just after 7:30 a.m.
Meacham says investigators received a tip about the teens, who then told officials that they broke into the building and lit the books on fire.
Meacham says he expects the teens to face charges of arson. The district attorney ultimately determines whether teens face any criminal charges in such cases.
Officials estimate that the fire caused about $500,000 in damages.
