Gansert Cleared Of Campaign Finance Allegation

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A former Nevada assemblywoman has been cleared of violating campaign finance laws.

The allegations against Heidi Gansert were raised by Chris Wicker, a lawyer and former chairman of the Washoe County Democratic Party.

Wicker’s complaint claimed that Gansert kept the bulk of her campaign funds for nine months after leaving office then transferred nearly $74,000 to her own political action committee. Money was then donated to Republican candidates in the 2012 election.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Secretary of State Ross Miller has informed Wicker that there was no violation of Nevada law.

Gansert is former GOP minority leader. She left office in 2010 then served for a time as Gov. Brian Sandoval’s chief of staff.

She is now a special assistant to the president of University of Nevada, Reno.
