SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake County district attorney has dropped 26 more cases from a now disbanded drug unit of the West Valley City Police Department.
That brings the total number cases dismissed to 124 in the widening probe of the beleaguered police department.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill dropped the cases Friday, citing a lack of credible evidence.
Gill also says he’s found other additional cases in which officers may have mishandled evidence. Some of those may also be dismissed.
The FBI is investigating allegations of corruption within the department’s disbanded drug unit.
Prosecutors began dropping cases from the unit in March. Gill has dismissed 114 cases so far as part of an ongoing review.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office dropped 10 West Valley City cases in April.
