Economic Forum Set To Release Numbers

(Carson City, NV) — Nevada’s budget battles come into focus when an independent panel meets to forecast how much money the state will receive over the next two years to fund state government.

After the Economic Forum makes its prediction Wednesday, lawmakers will be trolling for dollars.

The forum last met in late November and projected $5.8 billion in tax revenue. Gov. Brian Sandoval has included extending some taxes that would otherwise expire in June to balance his $6.5 billion general fund spending plan.

But Democrats and some Republicans say more money is needed to restore deep cuts made to critical areas like education and services for the poor during the recession.

Democrats are awaiting the forum’s final forecast before introducing measures tweaking Nevada’s tax base to bring in more money.
