LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 27-year-old man who police believe stabbed a woman to death over the weekend in Las Vegas has been critically injured after a confrontation with officers.

Police say they were tipped off that Nathan Benson was in a neighborhood in the northwest part of the valley about 9 p.m. Monday. Officers say they found him after a second tipster called in.

Authorities say Benson had a knife and charged at officers who surrounded him, which prompted two officers to shoot.

Benson was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Police have been looking for Benson after the Sunday death of 44-year-old Shanna Ralston.

Police say Benson and Ralston knew each other before Ralston was mortally wounded in the attack in a neighborhood near Washington Avenue and Jones Boulevard.
