(Las Vegas, NV) — Your child’s school lunch will cost more.
The Clark County School District Board of Trustees has approved a 15-cent increase for meals this fall. Elementary school kids will pay $2, while high school students will shell out $3.25.
A federal mandate enacted in 2010 increased nutritional requirements for school lunches and prohibited districts from using money from the National School Lunch Program to subsidize students not receiving free or reduced price lunches.
The Clark County School District voted to increase prices to help make up the $483,351 food budget shortfall caused by the mandate.
About 60% of Clark County School District students receive free or reduced price lunches.
