Is Nuclear Material Headed For Nevada?
(Washington, DC) — A plan to ship bomb-usable nuclear material to Nevada is raising questions.
The U.S. Department of Energy plans to truck over 400 steel containers of radioactive waste to the Nevada National Security Site for burial, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The DOE says it will be safe with proper precautions, but one official calls the material “nasty stuff.”
If approved, shipments from Tennessee’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory could begin later this year.
