SACRAMENTO, CA – The Las Vegas 51s began the season, its first as the New York Mets Triple-A affiliate, with a 10-5 win in Sacramento.
Top catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud had two doubles and scored four runs Thursday in the victory. Batting third in the lineup, d’Arnaud doubled in the first and later scored on a sacrifice fly by outfielder Andrew Brown.
Brown helped Las Vegas add to its lead in the third inning with a two-run double and finished with four RBIs. Second baseman Wilmer Flores was 3-for-3, helping the 51’s pound out 11 hits.
Mets top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler lasted just 3 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on three walks and three hits.
The 51s open the season with seven road games. The home opener is Friday, April 12 against Colorado Springs.
