(Carson City, NV) — Nevada’s superintendent of public schools has stepped down after one year on the job.

No reason was given for James Guthrie’s resignation.

Governor Brian Sandoval has appointed deputy superintendent Rorie Fitzpatrick as a temporary replacement.

Guthrie’s departure comes as the Legislature debates funding for public schools.
