Son Says Struggle With Gun Led To Parents Murders
(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–A 43-year old Las Vegas man has been charged with murdering his parents, after police were originally led to believe the couple were victims of a murder-suicide.
Police received a call from Joseph McManus Friday evening claiming he discovered his parents shot in their home on Cottontail Lane. Police say that when they arrived, the father was dead and the mother died after she had been taken to Sunrise Hospital.
Initially, say police, their reports indicated the older man had shot his wife, then turned a gun on himself.
The identities of the parents were released Monday. They were 70 year old James McManus and 67 year old spouse Alma McManus.
A police report says their son had blood on his shirt and had spent time gambling at a local store before arriving at the family home where he met detectives. Police say his story changed, and that he later admitted arguing with his parents and struggling with his father over a firearm.
The younger McManus was booked in the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of Murder with Deadly Weapon Victim over 60 Years of Age.
