( Henderson, NV ) – A Henderson SWAT officer, whose expensive police SUV went up in flames two weeks ago, told investigators he hit a median, but he kept driving home.
Officer Justin Simo, 36, says he didn’t notice any damage to the vehicle until it caught fire.
A Clark County Fire Department report gives more details about the Feb. 27 incident. Investigators who noted impact damage to the fender, bumper, and rim say the fire likely started because components in the wheel area were altered and overheated.
Firefighters estimate the damage at $60,000. Simo remains on paid leave, pending an internal investigation.
