Las Vegas – UNLV’s John Richy has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week. He was also named the National Pitcher of the Week by College Sports Madness for his performance against Stanford.
The sophomore pitched a gem against the Cardinal on Sunday. He went the full 9.0 innings to give the Rebels a 5-1 victory, and the series sweep. He gave up only two hits in the game and one unearned run while striking out four. It was the second complete game performance by a UNLV pitcher this season.
Richy is the second Rebel to be honored by the conference this season as freshman Kenny Oakley earned the same award on February 25.
The No. 21 Rebels sweep against the then No. 9 Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto, Calif. helped them become ranked for the first time in 10 years. The team is also on a 10-game winning streak following their win over CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday.
UNLV will open conference play on Friday, March 15 against preseason favorite New Mexico at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
