Las VEgas – UNLV baseball (13-3), which is coming off of a three-game sweep at then No. 9 Stanford, is ranked for the first time in a decade.
The Rebels broke into Baseball America’s poll on Monday at No. 21. UNLV was also ranked No. 24 by Perfect Game and No. 25 by Collegiate Baseball News.
“It means a lot to the program,” head coach Tim Chambers said. “It has been a long time since UNLV has been ranked and it is great for the community, our players and parents and our university. But at the end of the day it is just a ranking and we could be out of it as fast as we were in it. So we need to stay focused and concentrate on our next opponent which is CSU Bakersfield.”
The last time the program ranked was during the regular season was May 28, 2003, when the Rebels were No. 15 by Baseball America, No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball News and No. 20 in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll.
UNLV will look for its 10th straight win against CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday.
