Las Vegas – The Runnin’ Rebels finished the regular season third in the Mountain West standings to earn the No. 3 seed for the Reese’s MW Men’s Basketball Championship.
The Runnin’ Rebels (23-8, 10-6) will face No. 6 seed Air Force (17-12, 8-8) in the 12 p.m. quarterfinal game on Wednesday, which will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
The Runnin’ Rebels are 1-0 vs. the Falcons in MW Tournament play, winning a 2011 quarterfinal meeting. UNLV holds a league-best 21-9 all-time record in the MW Tournament, while Air Force is 2-13. The Runnin’ Rebels are split this season’s series with the Falcons.
New Mexico enters the MW Tournament as the No. 1 seed for the second time in the league’s 14-year history. The Lobos captured their fourth MW regular-season title, which was their second outright, with a 13-3 record this year.
New Mexico will face the winner of Tuesday’s first-round game between No. 8 seed Wyoming and No. 9 seed Nevada on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
No. 2 seed Colorado State will play No. 7 seed Fresno State in the 2:30 p.m. quarterfinal game on Wednesday, while No. 4 seed San Diego State and Boise State will meet at 9 p.m.
