Catholic Principal Resigns Over Drinking Probe
TOOELE, Utah (AP) — Officials for Utah’s Catholic schools are telling parents that a principal in Tooele has resigned.
KSL and the Desert News say they obtained letters showing the resignation of Principal Marcella Burden came after an investigation into alcohol use a week ago in the cafeteria of St. Marguerite Catholic School.
The Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City tells parents it reprimanded, suspended and reinstated an undisclosed number of faculty and staff members.
Officials say few of the employees actually took a drink that contained alcohol, and that no children were drinking.
KSL and Deseret News reported Burden was suspended March 1 pending an investigation, then reinstated earlier this week. But the reports say Burden decided to resign 24 hours later.
The diocese declined comment Friday when reached by The Associated Press. Burden didn’t return a phone message.
