Las Vegas – UNLV freshman pitcher Kenny Oakley has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Oakley, a freshman from Henderson, earned his first collegiate win in his first career start against Gonzaga. He pitched 7 innings, giving up only two hits and two walks, while striking out seven, guiding the Rebels to their first shutout of the season.
The rookie made his collegiate debut against Tennessee on opening night out of the bullpen. On the season he holds a 2.08 ERA in 8.2 innings of work and has struck out eight.
The Rebels return to Earl E. Wilson Stadium to host the Rebel Classic on Thursday. It will be the first time since 2002 that the Rebels have hosted a tournament.
Taking part in the 2013 Rebel Classic will be Loyola Marymount, Hawai’i and Bradley. The tournament opens on February 28th and will be played through Sunday, March 3rd. The Rebels will also play one more game on Monday, March 4th against Hawai’i.
