Lawmaker Banned From Nevada Legislature

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A troubled Nevada state lawmaker has been banned from the legislature and placed on leave while an independent investigation into his recent behavior is conducted.

Lawmakers took the action Monday against Democratic Las Vegas Assemblyman Steven Brooks. It follows his arrest on Sunday after his wife called 911 to report a domestic disturbance.

That incident was the latest in a series of sometimes bizarre public acts that have unfolded since the 40-year-old Brooks was arrested Jan. 19 on a felony allegation that he threatened Assembly Democratic Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick in North Las Vegas.

Assembly Majority Leader William Horne said Monday night that Brooks won’t be allowed inside legislative buildings while the investigation is ongoing.

He is also prohibited from acting as a legislator from outside the legislature’s main building.
