LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada state Assembly member is free on bail with an April 11 court date on charges that he physically attacked a family member and grabbed for a police officer’s weapon during the weekend.

Steven Brooks’ date in Las Vegas Justice Court was canceled Monday after he was freed from jail on $4,000 bail. He faces misdemeanor domestic battery and obstructing an officer charges.

Police say Brooks tried to take a gun from an officer early Sunday during a scuffle at a Las Vegas home.

It was Brooks’ second arrest since Jan. 19, when he was jailed overnight on a felony allegation that he threatened Assembly Democratic Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Brooks is a Democrat from North Las Vegas.

He announced last week he’d take a three-week leave from the Legislature.
