(Carson City, NV) — One state lawmaker wants drug testing for welfare applicants.
State Senator James Settelmeyer’s bill would require people applying for public assistance to take a saliva test for controlled substances.
Those who fail will enter a state treatment program, and could lose assistance if they fail another test after 30 days.
Settelmeyer believes if people can afford drugs, they don’t need welfare.
