(Las Vegas, NV) — A new ordinance to encourage recycling will be introduced at today’s county commission meeting.

Republic Services wants to get rid of the small red, white and blue recycle bins where you separate paper, glass, plastic and metal for recycling. The company has proposed a so-called “single stream” system, where residents get one bin for all recyclables.

The company wants to cut trash pickup service down to once each week, a move that doesn’t sit well with some commissioners.

Republic offers single-stream service to North Las Vegas and Henderson residents, and the trash firm says recycling has increased significantly.
