“My Baby Should Not Be In That Box”
(KXNT LAS VEGAS)–As friends and loved ones arrived at a North Las Vegas mortuary for a viewing of slain 10-year old Jade Morris, the child’s mother called for justice in the case.
Tejuana Reeves-Morris spoke with KXNT’s Brian Shapiro outside of Palm Mortuary at Jones and Oakey Boulevards. A coroner’s report said Jade had been stabbed 40 times. “They did a beautiful job on her and I’m thankful for that, but we gotta make sure justice is done to get this lady away forever. My baby should not be in that box.”
She referred to Brenda Stokes, the fiance of Jade’s father, who is accused of murder. Police say Stokes was the last person to see the child alive, accompanying her on a shopping trip the Friday afternoon following Christmas. That evening, Stokes was involved in a vicious slashing attack on a co-worker at the Bellagio. As Stokes was jailed in the incident, a frantic search began for Jade. Stokes was uncooperative, say police, in locating the child, who was found the following week in an empty lot in North Las Vegas.
A funeral service for Jade is set for Wednesday.
