SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The discovery of a grenade in a passenger’s carry-on bag prompted the temporary closure of a security screening area at Salt Lake City International Airport.
Transportation Security Administration agents established a 100-foot perimeter after detecting the grenade during security screening late Saturday morning.
According to TSA, local law enforcement, a bomb squad and the FBI responded, and the grenade turned out to be an inactive souvenir.
Security officers rerouted passengers to security checkpoints in two other terminals while the one security checkpoint was closed for about 40 minutes.
Airport officials say the grenade’s owner was detained for questioning and then released.
