LAS VEGAS (AP) — A hospital in northwest Las Vegas is hosting a decontamination drill simulating the release of radiation due to a criminal act.

Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center says the Operation Decon-12 exercise on Wednesday will include officials from the Nevada National Security Site nuclear proving ground and the Las Vegas police specialized ARMOR emergency operations unit.

As part of the exercise, administrators, responders and caregivers will be critiqued on the treatment of victims of a dirty bomb attack and their interaction and cooperation with other agencies.

Organizers say people can expect to see police and firefighters at the eight-story, 177-bed hospital looking and acting like the disaster is real.

But hospital spokeswoman Christine Beltran says normal emergency department operations and patient care won’t be affected.
