LAS VEGAS – In a disappointing 2 and 11 season the UNLV football program had few highlights but two Rebels were recognized Tuesday for their outstanding play.
Senior linebacker John Lotulelei and junior place-kicker Nolan Kohorst were honored as part of the conference’s official postseason awards.
Lotulelei (Kehei, Hawaii), currently ranks third in the Mountain West and 39th in the nation with 9.2 tackles per game and his total of 120 was the 10th-highest in UNLV single-season history.
Kohorst (Henderson, Nev.) is the first Rebel place-kicker to earn first team all-conference since UNLV Athletics Hall of Famer Nick Garritano earned the designation from the Big West Conference in 1994. Kohorst, who led the team in scoring this fall with 68 points, made 12-of-14 field goal attempts for a league-leading percentage of 85.7 (minimum of 10), which ranks 15th in the nation and second in the school’s single-season history.
