School District Shows Yearly Improvement

(Las Vegas, NV) — 91 of the District’s 357 Schools achieved a five-star ranking for the 2011-12 school year.

That nearly doubles the amount of five-star schools from the first ranking list from 2010-11.

For parents, the School Performance Framework is the new tool we are using to transparently show you how your child’s school is doing.

CCSD officials are pleased with the growth, saying that in addition to holding the District accountable for academic performance, the transparent accountability system allows schools in need of improvement to learn and model the behaviors from high-performing
schools.

Under the system, schoolsreceive scores based on academic growth, graduation rate, student engagement and other factors. Schools are then placed in one of five categories: five stars for highest performing schools; four stars for exceeding expectations;
three stars for schools that are meeting but not exceeding academic standards; two stars for schools close to meeting minimum standards; and one star for low-performing schools.
