(North Las Vegas, NV) — North Las Vegas and the city of Las Vegas seem to have resolved early problems over their jail merger.
In July, North Vegas closed its detention center and moved inmates to the Las Vegas city jail. But court officials say there were booking and record errors that allowed some inmates to stay locked up too long, and others being released too early.
North Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell tells the “Review-Journal” the situation has improved. Her city is paying Las Vegas to house more than 300 inmates.
Supporters say cash-strapped North Vegas will save up to $16 million a year.
