HOLLADAY, Utah (AP) — A 19-year-old man was rescued on Utah’s Mount Olympus after spending three nights stranded on a ledge.
Unified Police Department spokesman Lt. Justin Hoyal says Cole Taylor of Salt Lake was rescued by a state helicopter Saturday night after a hiker heard his screams for help.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable with hypothermia and dehydration.
Hoyal says Taylor had to eat leaves and drink urine to survive the ordeal.
Wearing only shorts, a basketball jersey and a baseball cap, Taylor climbed to the top of Mount Olympus on Wednesday.
Hoyal says Taylor walked off the main trail on the descent and ended up getting stuck on a ledge in Hughes Canyon.
He says Taylor is lucky to be alive.
