(Las Vegas, NV) — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is urging the Clark County teachers union and school district administrators to work out their differences over $40 million in possible federal grant funding.
Sandoval says he’ll meet personally with school district and union officials if necessary to see that the district’s Race to the Top grant application is submitted to the federal government.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Clark County Education Association, which has been at odds with the district for two years over teacher salaries and benefits, has refused to sign off on the district’s federal grant application. Union acceptance of the application is required.
Sandoval says Education Secretary Arne Duncan has extended the deadline until 1:30 p.m. Friday because of the storm on the East Coast.
