Arrest Made In Venetian Chip Theft Case
(Las Vegas, NV) — Las Vegas police say a 31-year-old Southern California man suspected of sneaking into a restricted area of the Venetian resort and stealing $1.6 million in casino chips has been arrested.
Authorities say media attention generated the tip that helped police find Akingide Cole. Officials say he was taken into custody Oct. 24, near his mother’s home in Southern California.
Las Vegas police detectives who traveled to Southern California after the arrest say they recovered more than $396,000 in chips. Venetian security officials say they’ve also found a tool used in the burglary.
Investigators believe Cole got into a closed area of the casino and took chips of different values about 6 a.m. on Oct. 10. They say no weapon was involved, and the suspect didn’t confront anyone during the incident.
