(Las Vegas, NV) — Authorities have identified a 16-year-old girl who died after the car she was riding in slammed into a wall southeast of downtown Las Vegas.
Clark County coroner’s officials say Mariel Mahuiztl (mah-WEE’-tzoh) of Las Vegas died shortly after the crash about 9 a.m. Monday.
Authorities say a 1994 Toyota was traveling in the bus turnout lane when it went onto the sidewalk and crashed into a residential block wall. It happened near the intersection of Palora Avenue and McLeod Drive, not far from Desert Inn Road.
The girl was taken to Sunrise Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Officials say 19-year-old driver Gustavo Mahuiztl was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
