LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada’s two-week early voting period opened with long lines at polling places in both ends of the state.

Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax says a record 33,182 voters turned out Saturday in the state’s most populous county, up from 25,105 voters in 2008.

He told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that no major problems were reported on the first day of early voting in the county centered around Las Vegas.

Washoe County officials say turnout also was high Saturday in the state’s second most populous county. Over 7,600 ballots had been cast as of mid-Saturday afternoon in the county around Reno.

To the south, more than a tenth of Douglas County residents have already cast a ballot.

Early voting ends Nov. 2. Election day is Nov. 6.
