(Carson City, NV)  —  Nevada employers could pay higher unemployment taxes next year.

The state Employment Security Council has recommended companies pay a higher tax rate in 2013, which would mean an additional $72 a year per employee.

Nevada still owes nearly $700 million to the federal government for money it borrowed to pay out jobless benefits.

The Silver State’s 12.1% unemployment rate is the highest in the nation.
