RENO, Nev. (AP) — Republican Sen. Dean Heller and Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley are accusing each other of hurting the middle class and being in the pocket of big business.

The two candidates met Thursday night in the first of three scheduled televised debates in Nevada’s tight U.S. Senate race.

Berkley told Heller he was a Wall Street and big business sympathizer who has voted to cut taxes for corporations.

Heller says he bucked his own party and supported extending unemployment benefits. He says Berkley is the one who voted to bail out Wall Street and the auto industry to the detriment of Nevadans.
