Explosion, Fire Lead to Death of Father and Son
(Las Vegas, NV) — A father and his teenage son are dead after an explosion and house fire in a West Las Vegas neighborhood.
The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the teenager as 13-year-old Mirion Jackson.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials say the father was working with gasoline from a boat parked in the carport when the fuel somehow ignited about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Flames spread to the house where the teen was. Emergency crews tried to get inside, but were blocked by a wall of fire and security bars on the doors and the windows.
Crews were able to rescue the teen’s mother and took her to the hospital, but found the teen unconscious inside the house when they finally entered.
He was later pronounced dead of apparent smoke inhalation.
Two police officers were also taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
No identity of the man has been made available.
