PHOENIX, Ariz. (CBS Las Vegas) – A woman is lucky to be alive after suffering an internal decapitation in a car crash.

According to KTVK-TV, Rachel Bailey’s skull was torn from her spine when she was struck by a full-sized pickup after she was pulling out from a side street.

“I do not remember anything about it,” Bailey told KSAZ-TV.

Bailey was in a coma for weeks and had to undergo eight hours of intensive therapy a day.

“But I just thought, ‘I’m not going to let this beat me or define me,’” she told KTVK.

She recently got to meet and have dinner with the Phoenix firefighters that saved her life.

“This reminds us the people we take care of are someone’s son, daughter, mother, or father,” Capt. Wayde Kline told KTVK.

Bailey is still hoping to become a physical therapist following the accident.
