(Las Vegas CBS KXNT) Northern Nevada law enforcement is perturbed, as the federal prosecutor’s office has issued a blanket rejection — in writing — of cases brought by the Reno unit of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The Reno Gazette Journal reported that four ATF agents tranferred out, leaving the unit depleted and inactive, after the U.S. attorney’s in Reno informed them the office would no longer prosecute cases generated by the Reno ATF.
RGJ also reports that Washoe County District Attorney Dick Gammick isn’t taking lightly the refusal to prosecute. Gammick is investigating three specific cases that were dismissed. He says the criminal community is likely to view Reno as a safe place to conduct business.
