(Las Vegas, NV) — Police have charged a man with felony drunk driving after he plowed his vehicle into a Las Vegas bus stop, killing four people and injuring at least eight others.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. Sgt. Richard Strader says several people were in the vehicle and had to be extricated following the crash a little before 6:30 a.m. Thursday on Spring Mountain Road east of Decatur Boulevard.
Clark County Fire Department officials say some of those injured have life-threatening injuries and have been taken to area hospitals.
There are four patients at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. One male is in good condition, while one male and two females are in critical condition. There are also four male patients at UMC. Two are in good condition, one in serious and one fair.
Authorities say the driver has a collapsed lung and possibly a broken back. Emergency responders say they smelled alcohol on his breath.
Spring Mountain is closed between Decatur and Arville. No traffic is allowed in that area. Drivers are urged to take alternate routes. Nearby businesses are also closed. The investigation is expected to take most of the day.
Police also are looking for a witness they believe saw the accident. They determined that from a series of videos that were taken from local businesses.
