Quake Rattles Rural Nevada

(Las Vegas, NV) — Sheriff’s officials in northern Nevada are reporting no damage or injuries after a 3.9 magnitude earthquake overnight near a small gold mining town northeast of Winnemucca.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports the temblor struck just before 11 p.m. Monday, and was centered 11 miles northwest of Getchell.

Getchell is in a remote area about 210 miles east of Reno, and home to a Barrick Gold Corp. mine.

A Barrick company spokesman didn’t immediately respond to a message.

Humboldt County sheriff’s officials say they received no calls about the quake.
