LAS VEGAS (AP) — A veteran federal prosecutor has been chosen to replace U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Johnston of Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Koppe now must undergo background investigations by the FBI and Internal Revenue Service.

Before joining the U.S. attorney’s office in Las Vegas in 2000, Koppe was an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia. She received her law degree from Cornell Law School.

U.S. District Judge Robert Jones says the background checks should take from 10 to 12 weeks.

Johnston retires in December.
