(Las Vegas, NV) — The Republican Party has come out against Internet gaming. A plank in the GOP platform approved at last week’s national convention calls for a “prohibition” on online betting. Internet poker is supported by most of Nevada’s gaming industry and politicians of both parties.

Governor Brian Sandoval tells the “Review-Journal” the Silver State backs online betting and a, quote, “secure online gaming environment.” Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson, a key Republican donor, is the most prominent gaming executive to oppose online betting.
